The Unsung Heroes of the Changhua Plain: A Brief Introduction -

Yang-Lin Pei-hsiang (1922-2015)

During the martial law period, Yang-Lin sent her sons abroad and both were blacklisted by the government: the eldest son attended the Taiwanese Association of Germany, while the youngest joined the United Formosans in America for Independence. In response, she decided to support her sons and fight against the injustice of the KMT regime. For selflessly donating her money and labor to the independent candidates, she earned the moniker “Madame Democracy” from her neighbors.
