Renaming “mountain compatriots” to “Indigenous Peoples”

On April 10, 1994, then President, Lee Teng-hui, attended the Conference of Indigenous Cultures and publicly used the term "Indigenous people." On August 1, the third amendment of the Constitution included the term “Indigenous Peoples" by renaming “mountain compatriots” to “Indigenous Peoples” in the additional articles.
