The Unsung Heroes of the Changhua Plain: A Brief Introduction -

Chang Yuan-chan (1959-)

After listening to a pro-democracy speech with his wife during the martial law period, Chang found it unreasonable that the government sent people to prison for advocacy of democracy and freedom. From then on, the delivery driver began to take part in street protests. At the zenith of Taiwan’s pro-democracy protests through the 1980s and 1990s, Chang often risked himself by heading into the most dangerous areas. Although they were often visited by the local police to “have a cup of tea,” the couple remained unharmed after the inquiries.
